Operation Wildlife needs volunteers to take care of orphaned and injured wildlife. Operation Wildlife helps many of Kansas’ native animals.

“If it walks, crawls or flies across Kansas, we take care of it,” Johnson said.

Diane Johnson said the organization needed six volunteers. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. These helpers must work at least one six-hour shift a week, and they must have compassion for animals.

Last week’s results

The American Red Cross received about five calls regarding its volunteer programs. Jasmin Lutz, health and safety program coordinator, said the Red Cross still needed several volunteers for marketing and outreach, CPR and First Aid instruction and to help in the event of natural disasters. Immediate volunteer needs

Mother to Mother needs help preparing the quarterly newsletter for mailing, assisting with childcare during special events, cutting hair for children or parents and assisting with general clerical duties. Mother to Mother is a grassroots interfaith program in which women learn and empower one another for the purpose of nurturing healthy families and creating community across diversity. Lawrence Meals on Wheels needs volunteers with valid driver’s licenses to deliver meals, and room supervisors to stack and strap meals for delivery. Volunteers can choose one day a week to drive or sign up to be on the substitute drivers list. Contact Kim Tinsley, 979-1440.

Jayhawk Support Services for Elders need volunteers. Volunteers visit an older adult on a monthly basis to assist with bill paying, check-writing and checkbook balancing. Contact Dawn Pennington, 785-354-8531.

ICAN needs volunteers, 17 and older, or 16 with an adult, to staff lemonade stands during Sandstone concerts. The proceeds benefits Interfaith Caring Neighbor, a nonprofit agency providing services to the elderly of Douglas County. To sign up call Judith Galas, 842-4958.
