Perry ? Plans are moving ahead for the annual Independence Day fireworks celebration at Perry Lake scheduled for July 6, lake officials said.

The Lake Perry Yacht and Marina is planning and handling the display. A final approval, however, still must be given by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers office in Kansas City, Mo.

Because of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, such celebrations at Perry and other federal lakes must be approved by the Army Corps of Engineers, Perry Lake Operations Director Frank Funk said. Previously Funk’s office gave the final approval.

Events usually get under way in the afternoon and include band performances and food vendors. The fireworks display is at 10 p.m.
