Averill to portray abolitionist, actress

“Shame the Devil: An Audience With Fanny Kemble” will be performed by Lawrence actress Jeanne Averill at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 N.H.

The one-woman show tells the story of famed British actress and abolitionist Fanny Kemble. A discussion will follow the show.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for senior citizens and students. Special dinner theater tickets are available at the BleuJacket Restaurant.

The play was performed at the Denver Theatre Centre in the summer of 1998.

Topeka festival focuses on chamber music

Topeka Eight free concerts have been scheduled for the 16th annual Sunflower Music Festival Friday-June 15 in White Concert Hall at Washburn University, 17th and Jewell streets.

The schedule includes full orchestra concert, Friday; chamber music concert, Saturday; concert by students of Blanche Bryden Institute, June 9; chamber music concert, June 10; concert by students of the Blanche Bryden Institute, June 11; full orchestra concert, June 12; chamber music concert, June 14; and full orchestra final concert, June 15. All concerts are at 7:30 p.m.
