IHOP found violating Kansas health codes

For the second time in as many years, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment has fined a Lawrence restaurant for violating state health codes.

Officials have levied a $5,100 penalty against Lawrence’s International House of Pancakes, 3102 Iowa, for 12 violations witnessed between January and April of this year during routine inspections.

On one occasion, an employee was seen handling raw hamburger and then handling ready-to-eat bread, the order against IHOP detailed. Other violations involved employees handling raw eggs and then having contact with ready-to-eat biscuits and employees handling ready-to-eat foods with bare hands.

KMG Enterprises Inc., the company that owns the Lawrence IHOP, has until June 11 to appeal the fines.

The same restaurant was fined $4,000 almost a year ago for similar health code violations.

Restaurant representatives could not be reached Friday for comment.
