Pearl Melissa Campbell

She was born Nov. 11, 1902, in Douglas County, the daughter of Fred Cicero and Josephine Caroline (Langley) Allen. She grew up in the Lawrence area and after graduating from high school received a certificate from Emporia State Teacher’s College.

Mrs. Campbell was a teacher at the No. 6 school in Lawrence. In 1945 she moved to Flint, Mich., where she owned and operated several restaurants.

She had several civic memberships in Flint and was active in Court Street Methodist Church, where she did volunteer work. On at least two separate occasions, the Mayor proclaimed it Pearl Melissa Campbell Day for service to her community.

Mrs. Campbell married Gerald M. Campbell on Aug. 5, 1921, in Lawrence. He died in 1966.

Survivors include three daughters, Rosemarie Dunden, Eugene, Ore., Betty Jo Kolb, Ann Arbor, Mich., and Jacqueline Hays, Wellsville; a son, Gerald M. Campbell Jr., Las Vegas; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren died earlier.
