Earl William Johnsmeyer

He was born in Riley County, the son of Fred and Mary (Buss) Johnsmeyer. He grew up in Shawnee County and graduated from Berryton High School. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Kansas State Teachers College. He moved from Winchester to Lansing in 1948, when he joined the Lansing School as a teacher and coach.

Mr. Johnsmeyer was an Army World War II veteran, a member of Lansing United Methodist Church, a charter member of Lansing Kiwanis Club, where he received the George F. Hixon Award. He was past secretary and treasurer of the Leavenworth-area Retired Teachers Assn., a member of the National Teachers Assn., Lansing School Board and Lansing Historical Society. He and his wife were the founding members of Lansing Kansas Scholarship Fund Inc.

He married Irene E. McCoy on March 5, 1948, in Topeka. She died Oct. 5, 1998.

Mr. Johnsmeyer is survived by a sister, Phyllis Peterson.

Family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
