City: Organize curbside trash

If you’re moving this week, Bob Yoos has a request: Don’t make your trash look like a giant curbside bonfire.

Yoos, director of the city’s solid waste division, said disorganized trash was the biggest problem for trash collectors as thousands of renters’ leases expire Thursday.

Yoos estimated crews would collect 450 tons of garbage each of the next three weeks. An average week the rest of the year is about 250 tons.

City officials also remind movers not to pour hazardous materials down the drain or throw them away. The city will have hazardous waste collection days from 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 17, Sept. 21 and Oct. 19 at the city’s hazardous waste collection facility, 711 E. 23rd Street.
