Olathe’s Bruce hurt in attack in Canada

? Wide receiver Arland Bruce III and running back Troy Mills of the CFL Winnipeg Blue Bombers, were in a hospital emergency room this weekend after being attacked by a crowd of 10 to 20 people outside a city bar.

Bruce, who leads the team in touchdowns, did not travel with the Bombers to Toronto on Monday, because of a deep gash to his temple.

According to the team, the attack occurred late Saturday night when four players left a downtown nightclub together and were confronted by a crowd. Bruce was hit in the head with a rock or brick, while Mills was slammed down against a curb.

Bruce, a native of Olathe, originally signed with Kansas University, but did not qualify academically. After a stint at Hutchinson Community College, Bruce headed to Minnesota, which was coached by Glen Mason, the Jayhawks’ coach when Bruce committed to KU.
