Marlins transfer infielder to 60-day DL

Miami The Florida Marlins transferred shortstop Alex Gonzalez from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL Saturday.

Gonzalez has been out with a dislocated left shoulder and likely will miss the rest of the season.

The Marlins also optioned left-hander Benito Baez to Double-A Portland.

Baez was activated from his injury rehab assignment on Saturday, then sent to Double-A.

Padres put catcher on DL, promote Nieves

San diego Catcher Wiki Gonzalez was put on the 15-day disabled Saturday with a strained right hip flexor.

It’s the second time on the disabled list this year for Gonzalez, the Padres’ opening day catcher.

He missed 36 games after breaking his left hand in the third game of the season.

Gonzalez was batting .243 with one home run and 17 RBIs.

Taking Gonzalez’s roster spot is catcher Wil Nieves, who got his first big league promotion.

His contract was purchased from Triple-A Portland, where he hit .316 with seven home runs and 26 RBIs.

Tom Lampkin is San Diego’s other catcher.
