London ? Planes at an air show were grounded Saturday after a small fire broke out on a military plane when it landed on the runway, organizers said.

Spokesman John Howe said the nosewheel of the Italian G222 collapsed as it landed on the strip at the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, in southwest England.

“Within minutes the services were at the aircraft to deal with the small fire, which was contained very swiftly,” Howe said.

“Nobody was hurt and the crew left the aircraft safely. But it is disappointing that the incident has disrupted the show.”

Crowds at the show were being entertained by fly pasts from planes that took off from other bases as safety crews worked to remove the damaged plane from the runway.

More than 400 aircraft from 32 different countries are on display at the air show and organizers expect about 200,000 aviation fans to visit over two days.

An investigation was underway to discover the cause of the accident on the two-seater G222, a popular plane at air shows.
