Miami Tony Gonzalez's NBA experiment is over at least with the Miami Heat.
Gonzalez, one of the NFL's premier tight ends with the Kansas City Chiefs, left the Heat's summer team in Long Beach, Calif., on Thursday after briefly trying to make the team's regular-season roster.
"Tony left on his own; he was not cut," Heat spokesman Tim Donovan said Friday. "He decided to try to get on a team where he can play."
He has been in contract negotiations with the Chiefs for months but said his NBA stint was not a negotiating ploy. The Chiefs open training camp Thursday.
