Gilmore services

He was born Sept. 8, 1913, in Fremont County, Iowa, the son of John J. and Catherine M. (Archer) Gilmore.

Mr. Gilmore served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was assigned to the 7th Army Air Force Geodetic Control Squadron. He was a professor of Latin American history and taught at Vanderbilt University, Ohio University and Kansas University.

He married Florence “Juliet” Baxter on Sept. 19, 1942, in Colorado Springs, Colo. She died Nov. 23, 1994.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol J. Gilmore, Overland Park; two sons, John J., Phoenix, and William B., Highstown, N.J.; and four grandchildren.

A prayer service will be conducted at 8 p.m. today at the church. The family will receive friends after the prayer service.

The family suggests memorials to Creighton University or Kansas University Endowment Association, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
