Man sentenced in killing of Hoosier’s mother

? The man convicted of killing the mother of Indiana University running back Levron Williams has been sentenced to 95 years in prison.

Steven J. Robbins, 54, was convicted last month of fatally shooting Brenda Chevelle Douglas, 37, on Dec. 1 outside her apartment building. She had watched her son play his final collegiate game that day in Bloomington.

“I hope my sentence keeps you behind bars for the rest of your life,” Magistrate David Kiely told Robbins during Monday’s sentencing hearing.

Robbins, who lived with Douglas, was arrested several days following her death after an informant told investigators that Robbins had discussed killing Douglas because he feared she would turn him in for drug dealing, police said.

Robbins will not be eligible for parole until he is 100 years old.

Robbins, who represented himself at the sentencing, said he planned to appeal.

Robbins has two prior murder convictions and one for manslaughter, all in the Chicago area.

Williams did not attend the sentencing hearing or Robbins’ trial.
