Kansas City, Mo. ? Texas Rangers closer Hideki Irabu remained hospitalized in Kansas City after his team flew home Tuesday night, a day after he was diagnosed with a series of small blood clots in his lungs.

Irabu was originally scheduled to travel with the Rangers to Texas after their game against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night, but a team spokesman said he would remain in St. Luke’s Hospital for probably two to three more days.

“Our doctors wanted to be conservative,” Rangers manager Jerry Narron said. “They didn’t think it was necessary he come back tonight.” Narron said he visited with Irabu earlier Tuesday.
