The Kansas Council of the National Association of Insurance Women, International, announces the new officers for 2002-2003. Mary Jo Dooley has been elected Kansas state director and has selected Gloria Schroeder as her assistant. Both are employed with Farmers Alliance Mutual Insurance Company. Teresa Fioretto will serve as membership chairwoman, and Jennifer Flory will be public relations chairwoman.

David Tacha, Lawrence, has joined TeamOne Real Estate. He is a 1995 Lawrence High School graduate. He received a degree from Kansas University in 1999.

Cheri Drake and her team of professionals were featured in an article published by the National Association of Realtors. The article’s focus was on best business practices for real estate companies. Drake and her staff were highlighted for their unique style of customer service and training of her team. Drake is a member of TeamOne Real Estate, Lawrence.

Mount Prospect, Ill.-based First Home Mortgage, a Midwest mortgage banking firm, has opened a new office in Nixa, Mo., and Overland Park. The new offices will be managed by Denise Jeselnik, Lenexa, who has more than 25 years of experience in mortgage banking and is a board member of the Mortgage Bankers Assn. of Greater Kansas City.

Bob Sanner, Lawrence, will be among the seven loan officers at the Overland Park office.

Joseph Yockey, Lawrence, has been selected for a summer internship as a law clerk in the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Western District of Missouri. Yockey, a 2000 graduate of Kansas University, primarily will work in the narcotics unit in the criminal division. He is a student at the University of Illinois College of Law in Champaign, Ill. He plans to earn his juris doctorate in May 2004.

Keith Ely, Lawrence, has joined Jeff Sacks Dixon Odom as director of heavy truck dealership services. Ely owned Free State Solutions, a heavy truck dealership operations management consulting firm in Lawrence. It merged with JSDO on June 1. Ely has been the instructor for the heavy truck dealership classes of the ATD Dealer Candidate Academy since 1997. He previously served as chief financial officer for Noller Automotive Group, Topeka. He received his master’s degree in business administration from Kansas University in 1990.

Area nutrition professionals participated in the 2002 School Food Service Institute, sponsored by Nutrition Services, Kansas State Department of Education. The institute provides professional growth and networking opportunities for school nutrition personnel. Those who participated from Lawrence schools were: Linda Meyers, Audrey Giermann, Kathy Hanna, Maggie Thompson, Erma Dieker, Sandy Barnes, Mary Aguilar, Eileen Young, Julie Chaudry, Jennifer Hamon, Laura Chavez, Julie Barnard, Donna Bateman, Susan Curtiss, Lori Romero, Louis Jaimez, Deb Krische and Linda Jaimez.

Hugh Wentz has joined Wells Fargo Home Mortgage as a mortgage loan consultant in Lawrence. His duties are to originate mortgage loans and teach Wells Fargo Home Mortgage’s “Homebuyer Education” workshop. He has been involved in the Lawrence real estate industry for more than 20 years.

Peoples Bank, with locations in Colorado and Kansas, has donated hay to help ranchers whose livestock are suffering from wildfire conditions in Colorado. Peoples Insurance donated $1,000 to the Divide Volunteer Fire Department for equipment and supplies. Peoples Mortgage gave a $1,000 donation to the Red Cross in Colorado Springs to help with evacuation shelters.

Peoples Insurance and Peoples Mortgage are part of Peoples Bank, a community bank that has two locations in Lawrence.

Several members of Lawrence Memorial Hospital’s Kreider Rehabilitation Services recently completed educational courses.

Jaye Cole recently became certified in manual lymph drainage. She attended “Comprehensive Lymphedema Management for Healthcare.”

Kelli Robinson attended “Successful Treatment of Back Pain.” This class was sponsored by Cross Country University.

Marit Revenew recently completed “Geriatric Rehabilitation: Learn How to Evaluate, Treat and Document Age-related Changes.” This course was given by the Dogwood Institute.

Dawna Vanover attended “Orthopedic Rehabilitation of the Shoulder and Knee” at Kansas City Kansas Community College.

Wendi Kelemen-Braden recently attended “Craniosacral Therapy II” sponsored by the Upledger Institute and “Stone Massage” at the Massage Institute of Kansas City.

Kreider Rehabilitation Services provides a range of services including physical therapy, occupational therapy, hand therapy, speech-language therapy, massage therapy and many other specialized programs.

Debra Morris is the new clinical manager for Health Care Access. She serves a s the primary medical provider for the clinic and coordinates research and clinic management. She is a graduate of the Kansas University Medical Center’s Nurse Practitioner program. Health Care Access is a nonprofit, medical clinic serving uninsured and low-income families in Douglas County.

Via Net.Works USA , an Atlanta-based managed Web hosting company and division of Via Net.Works Inc. announced it has entered into an agreement with LaGarde Inc. to provide small businesses with LaGarde’s StoreFront Now e-business software.

Through this agreement, Via USA’s customers will have access to a scalable e-business solution that can grow with their online merchant and e-commerce business needs.

LaGarde Inc. is an e-commerce software development firm based in Lawrence. The company’s focus is to provide customers with business applications software for the Internet.

Justin Stout, Linwood, has an internship at the Lawrence branch of Frontier Farm Credit. He is participating in a program sponsored by Western/

Wichita Farm Credit banks. The program combines instruction and on-the-job training for all types of financing, appraisal and other services.

Kansas City attorney John Parisi has been elected president of the Kansas Trial Lawyers Assn. Parisi began his term as president of the 800-member association on July 1 and leads the organization’s 23-member executive committee. Parisi is a partner in the law firm of Shamberg, Johnson & Bergman. He has practiced law since graduating from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law.

Lawrence members of the KTLA executive committee are: William Skepnek, parliamentarian; Patrick Nichols, Association of Trial Lawyers of America governor; and Nancy Crawford, member at large.

Coming events

The monthly meeting of the Twilight Chapter of the American Business Women’s Assn. will be at 7 p.m. Monday at American Legion Building, 3408 W. Sixth St. Networking activity will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The cost of dinner is $10. Installation of new officers will be conducted.

Consumer Credit Counseling Services will present “Discover More Dollars” from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Topeka Public Library, 1515 SW 10th St., Topeka.

The 2002 Kansas Angus Assn.’s annual tour will be Aug. 2-3 in Northeast Kansas.

The tour will kickoff with registration at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 2 at Swearngin Angus in Lawrence. Other herds that will have cattle on display include: Barrett Cattle Company, Grantville; Dennon Beef Farm, Tecumseh; DNA Angus Farm, McLouth; S Bar S Ranch, Lawrence; and Winsor Angus Farm, Grantville. Susan Rhode, American Angus Assn. director of communications and public relations, and Matt Caldwell, American Angus Assn. regional manager, will give an update on association programs. After lunch, the tour will travel to the Leavenworth area and make a stop at April Valley Farms and New Haven Angus, where Larry Corah, of certified Angus Beef LLC Supply Development, will present a program.

The tour will continue at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 3 at Mission Valley Ranch, Topeka, with breakfast and cattle viewing. Other herds that will display cattle include L&L Cattle Company, Topeka, and Sunflower Cattle Company, Maple Hill.
