Brad Paisley on tap at Earhart Festival

Atchison This year’s Amelia Earhart Festival on Friday-Saturday will mark the 70th anniversary of Earhart’s 1932 flight from Newfoundland to Ireland, where she became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.

The festival will kick off Friday with a concert featuring country singer Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts and Thunderheart at 6 p.m. at Warnock Lake.

Saturday’s events include River Rod-A-Rama Car Show and Swap Meet, 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Farmers’ Market on Main; Downtown Festival, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., downtown; Amelia Earhart Symposium, 1:30 p.m., Atchison Heritage Conference Center, 710 S. Ninth St.; entertainment and fireworks display, 6 p.m., downtown; and street dane with Big Fat Fun, 10 .m.-midnight, 101 S. River Road.

Lawrence illustrator in exhibit at K-State

Manhattan A Lawrence illustrator is among the artists whose works are included in “Beyond Oz: Children’s Book Illustrations from the Region,” an exhibition at the Beach Museum of Art at Kansas State University.

Stephen T. Johnson, who received a Caldecott award for his illustrations in “Alphabet City,” will show his work, conduct a teacher’s workshop on Sept. 4 and give a talk on Sept. 5.

The exhibition, which runs Saturday through Dec. 15, includes pieces from artists living in Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Colorado and Oklahoma.

Muscle cars, Harleys to be shown

Kansas City, Mo. The second annual Weekend of Wheels will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. July 21 at Crown Center Square, 2450 Grand Blvd.

The exhibition features American muscle cars and Harley show bikes on Saturday and European super cars on Sunday.

The show is free.
