WNBA Roundup: Sparks cool off Fire

? Mwadi Mabika scored 32 points and DeLisha Milton converted a three-point play with 26 seconds remaining in overtime as Los Angeles ended Portland’s franchise-record seven-game winning streak with an 82-76 victory Friday night.

Milton finished with 23 points and 13 rebounds for the Sparks (15-3). Marlies Askamp had 11 points and 12 rebounds and Mabika added six rebounds and six assists. Los Angles outrebounded Portland 44-31.

Sylvia Crawley and DeMya Walker each scored 18 points for the Fire (11-9). Walker added eight rebounds.

Los Angeles was able to force overtime despite the loss of Lisa Leslie, who fouled out with 6:40 remaining in regulation. Leslie had seven points.

The Sparks were without reserves Latasha Byears and Tamecka Dixon.

Dixon missed her second straight game following the death of her grandmother. It is not known when she will return to the team.

Byears sat out while serving the first game of a two-game suspension.

Shock 72, Lynx 69

Auburn Hills, Mich. Rookie Swin Cash scored 14 of her 18 points in the second half to lead Detroit past Minnesota.

Sting 72, Miracle 67

Orlando, Fla. Allison Feaster scored all but four of her 19 points on three-pointers and Tammy Sutton-Brown added 18 points as Charlotte beat Orlando. Andrea Stinson had 12 points for the Sting (10-8), who won a road game for the third time this season.

Sol 68, Fever 62

Indianapolis Rookie Tamika Catchings, a starter in next week’s WNBA All-Star game, suffered a concussion Friday and Indiana was unable to overcome her loss. Catchings fell to the court when the elbow of Miami’s Ruth Riley landed on her nose in the first half. No foul was called, and Catchings did not return.

Rockers 62, Storm 58

Seattle Ann Wauters scored 16 points and Penny Taylor had nine of her 12 in the second half as Cleveland snapped a six-game losing streak. Chasity Melvin had 12 points and 12 rebounds for Cleveland (7-12) and Merlakia Jones had 10 points and five rebounds. Lauren Jackson scored 10 of her 22 points over the final 7:06 for Seattle (9-11).

Comets 74, Monarchs 60

Sacramento, Calif. Sheryl Swoopes had 15 points and five assists as Houston won for the 11th time in 12 games.
