Pearl Melissa Campbell

She was born Nov. 11, 1902, in Douglas County, the daughter of Fred Cicero and Josephine Caroline (Langley) Allen. She grew up in the Lawrence area and after graduating from high school, received a teaching certificate from Emporia Teacher’s College.

Mrs. Campbell was a teacher at the No. 6 school in Lawrence. After her marriage, she settled in Flint, Mich. She owned and operated a family diner and also owned several homes. She held several civic memberships in Flint, Mich., and was also active in the Flint Methodist Church, where she did volunteer work. She was presented with several keys to the city by the mayor for her service to the community.

She married Gerald M. Campbell on Aug. 5, 1921, in Lawrence. He died in 1966.

Survivors include three daughters, Jacqueline Hays, Wellsville, Rose Marie Dunden, Eugene, Ore., and Betty Jo Kolb, Ann Arbor, Mich.; a son, Gerald M. Campbell Jr., Las Vegas; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren died earlier.
