Full recovery expected

Los Angeles Sharon Osbourne, wife of British heavy metal icon Ozzy Osbourne and co-star of the MTV reality series “The Osbournes,” has been released after undergoing surgery for colon cancer.

Osbourne, 50, who manages her husband’s career, was “in good spirits and doing well,” family spokeswoman Lisa Vega said Tuesday. The surgery took place last week at an undisclosed Los Angeles-area hospital.

The disease was in its early stages, Vega said, and doctors expect a full recovery. She did not say when Osbourne was released.

Giuliani divorce settled

New York Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and his former wife Donna Hanover reached an out-of-court divorce settlement Wednesday, avoiding a public conclusion to their bitter separation.

“For the sake of the children, and really all of us, I am relieved to be able to reach an agreement on all the terms and spare anyone any further pain, embarrassment or anything else,” Giuliani told reporters.

Hanover refused to comment, but her lawyer, Helen Brezinsky, said the settlement was “a spectacular win for Donna and the children.”

New York Newsday reported the settlement would cost Giuliani $6.8 million.

Van Halen, Bertinelli split

Los Angeles Guitarist Eddie Van Halen and actress Valerie Bertinelli have announced they secretly separated nearly 10 months ago after 20 years of marriage.

Bertinelli’s publicist, Heidi Schaeffer, confirmed the split Tuesday, but she did not say whether they plan to divorce.

The two have been living apart since summer 2001, when Bertinelli, 42, formerly of the sitcom “One Day at a Time,” began a role on the CBS religious drama “Touched By an Angel.”

Van Halen continued living with their 10-year-old son, Wolfgang, in Los Angeles while Bertinelli was filming the series in Salt Lake City.

They formally separated in October 2001, Schaeffer said.

Van Halen, 45, co-founded the rock band that bears his name in 1974 with his older brother, drummer Alex Van Halen.

Madonna’s Bond ambition

London Madonna will make a cameo appearance in the latest James Bond movie, her spokeswoman said.

Liz Rosenberg said the singer, who already has recorded the title track for “Die Another Day,” the 20th Bond film, was on the set in London to film her brief scenes this week.

London’s Evening Standard newspaper said Madonna will wield a foil in the movie as a fencing instructor. The newspaper said she shot a sequence that will be edited into a swashbuckling scene in which Pierce Brosnan, as Bond, duels with villain Gustav Graves, played by Toby Stephens, at a London gentlemen’s club.
