Lied Center names new board members

The Lied Center has named new board members.

Jason Edmonds, financial adviser and vice president of investments for Robert W. Baird and Company in Lawrence, is the president of the Friends of the Lied executive board. Edmonds is a Kansas University alumnus.

Lindy Eakin, associate provost of support service at KU, is president-elect. He is associate provost for support services at KU. He has bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees from KU.

Joan Golden has joined the board as campaign chair elect. She is senior vice president of development with U.S. Bank. She is a KU alumna.

Other new board members are Kevin Boatright, associate executive vice chancellor for University Relations at KU; Ted Haggert, president and CEO of Douglas County Bank; Francois Henriquez, senior vice president and general counsel at U.S. Central Credit Union in Overland Park; June Jones, employee relations director for Hills Pet Nutrition Inc. in Topeka; Denise Low-Weso, poet and English professor at Haskell Indian Nations University; Carrie Mandigo, a KU alumna in exercise physiology and nursing; Eli Michaelis, director of the Higuchi Bioscienes Center and Center for Neurobiology and Immunology Research at KU; and Jennifer Sanner, senior vice president for communications at the Kansas Alumni Association.

KC-area water gardens listed on tour

Kansas City, Mo. The Water Garden Society of Greater Kansas City will have its annual water garden tour Saturday and July 14.

The water gardens include waterfalls, streams, bogs, fountains, water plants and colorful fish.

Tickets are $10 a person for those 14 and older and $8 a person for groups of 10 or more.

Fiction writer to offer family story workshop

Charley Kempthorne, a fiction writer and founder of the LifeStory Institute, will present a writer’s workshop at 2 p.m. Monday at Babcock Place, 1700 Mass. Pre-registration is encouraged; a suggestion of $2 can be made at the door.

Kempthorne teaches participants how to reveal their family stories, embrace the ordinary elements of their lives and write in a narrative style.

The workshop is sponsored by the Lawrence-Douglas County Housing Authority, Lawrence Public Library and Douglas County Senior Services.
