Right-hander Edwin Hurtado, who pitched three years in the major leagues with Toronto and Seattle, signed Thursday with the Kansas City Royals and was assigned to their Triple-A team at Omaha. Hurtado was pitching this season with Cancun and led the Mexican League with a 1.38 ERA, 113 strikeouts, seven complete games and three shutouts. He was 9-5 and allowed just 78 hits in 117 innings while walking 27 and holding hitters to a .188 average.
