Sweeney hurt in loss

Kansas City first baseman Mike Sweeney cut his right ring finger when he was hit by a pitch from Seattle right-hander Joel Pineiro in the fourth inning Wednesday night.

Sweeney fell hard to the ground and left the game. He received two stitches and a precautionary X-ray on the finger was normal. He was listed as day-to-day and could play today at Oakland if there’s not too much swelling.

Brandon Berger came in to pinch run for Sweeney, then stayed in the game in left field. Raul Ibanez moved to first to replace Sweeney.
