Donald W. Flessing

Memorial services for Donald W. Flessing, 86, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church. Mr. Flessing was cremated. Private burial will be later in Pendleton (N.Y.) Cemetery.

Mr. Flessing died Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community.

He was born Aug. 15, 1915, in Buffalo, N.Y., the son of Frank Edward and Emma (Wagner) Flessing.

Mr. Flessing worked in materials control/accounting for DuPont Chemical Co., Grand Island, N.Y. In 1958, DuPont transferred Mr. Flessing and his family to Lawrence.

He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed in Roswell, N.M. He also served in England with the 391st Bomb Squadron and ran raids over occupied France.

Mr. Flessing was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where he had served on the vestry, and 391st Bomb Group Assn.

He married Jane Ethel Givens on Nov. 21, 1942, in Roswell, N.M. She died Sept. 13, 2001.

Survivors include a son, Doug W., Lawrence; a sister, Dorothy Carlson, Hamburg, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

A son, Donald Owen, died Jan. 11, 1967.
