WNBA Roundup: Smith leads Lynx past Shock

Minnesota standout scores 28 points in 85-80 overtime win

? Katie Smith scored a season-high 28 points, including seven in overtime, leading the Minnesota Lynx past the Detroit Shock, 85-80, Monday night.

Smith hit a three-pointer with 1:36 remaining that put the Lynx up 83-79. The Shock came no closer than three points thereafter. Smith sealed the victory with two free throws with 14.5 seconds remaining.

“We fought through it tonight,” Smith said. “You could say that a lot of our losses got away from us. But tonight we made plays when we needed to.”

The Lynx (6-8) trailed for much of the final minutes but tied it at 75 on Svetlana Abrosimova’s driving layup with 38 seconds remaining in regulation.

Abrosimova finished with 21 points, and Tamika Williams had 18 points and 11 rebounds. The former Connecticut teammates scored the Lynx’s final 14 points of regulation.

Sting 90, Mercury 68

Charlotte, N.C. Tonya Edwards led six players in double figures with 14 points as Charlotte remained unbeaten at home.

Kelly Miller and Andrea Stinson added 13 points, Tammy Sutton-Brown and Allison Feaster each scored 12 and Erin Buescher had 11 points and 11 rebounds for Charlotte (7-6), which is 6-0 at home.

Washington is the only other WNBA team with a perfect home mark at 7-0.

Jennifer Gillom scored 16 points for Phoenix (7-6), which was outrebounded 41-23 as it dropped its second straight game and fell to 0-4 on the road.
