William McCall Palmer

? He was born July 15, 1928, in Columbus, Ohio, the son of Herbert and Mary Latricia (McCall) Palmer. He had lived in Ozawkie since 1977, moving there from Grantville. He had also lived in Topeka.

Mr. Palmer was a truck driver for more than 36 years. He worked through the Teamster’s Union Local No. 696 in Topeka. He had worked for Graham’s Truck lines, Graves Truck lines and A&R Truck lines, all in Topeka. He also had worked at Gregg Tire Co., Topeka, and at Lake Perry Country Club.

He was a member and past union steward of Teamsters Union Local No. 696, and was past president of the Union Local No. 696 Retirees.

He married Agnes C. Primm on Feb. 26, 1948, in Topeka. She died Sept. 24, 1982. He then married Carol Elaine Smith on Sept. 30, 1989, in Topeka. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include four sons, Michael, Dale City, Va., James, Meriden, and William M. and Timothy, both of Topeka; two daughters, Patty Oliver and Kathy Alford, both of Topeka; four stepsons, Roger Decker, Sioux Falls, S.D., Richard Decker, Huron, S.D., Rodney Decker, Grove, Okla., and Roy Decker, Meriden; four stepdaughters, Jeannie Hofer and Roxanne Ford, both of Huron, and Caralee Hasty and Nancy Smith, both of Meriden; three brothers, Herbert and Carl, both of Topeka, and Edgar, Fort Worth, Tex.; a sister, Sarah Kelly, Paw Paw, Mich.; 13 grandchildren; 14 stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

A granddaughter and a stepson, John Decker, died earlier.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Friday at Barnett’s Meriden Funeral Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.
