Sidewalk issue

To the editor:

Regarding the letter from a reader who cleared his sidewalks of the last ice storm in compliance with the dumbest ordinance the city has inflicted to date:

How exactly are we offenders notified of our crimes? Will the sidewalk snow police come to our door, or will we just get a bill in the mail for the 20 bucks a day?

Also, are we entitled to the identity of our informers? What if we’re out of town when it snows? What if we can’t shovel the snow and can’t afford to hire someone to do it? Will the money paid in fines be put into a fund for sidewalk repairs since they really belong to the city? I’ve never complained that the city doesn’t shovel their sidewalks. And I don’t recall the city EVER asking me what I thought of their ordinance before they passed it.
