Garnett, Billups boost Minnesota past Los Angeles, 112-101

? Chauncey Billups wasn’t happy when Phil Jackson said the Timberwolves still have a look of fear when they play the world champion Los Angeles Lakers.

So the Minnesota guard made the Lakers afraid to leave him open Wednesday night.

Billups complemented Kevin Garnett’s 33 points with 30 of his own, including seven straight three-point shots that helped the Wolves beat the Lakers, 112-101.

“That’s a little disrespectful for him to say that,” Billups said of Jackson’s comments. “This is basketball, you don’t fear anybody. We respect that team, but we don’t fear anyone in this league.”

Billups, who also had 11 assists, nailed two big three-pointers in the fourth quarter to keep the Lakers from fighting their way back and extending their four-game winning streak.

With the Lakers trailing 95-86, Billups hit a three to give Minnesota more breathing room. Then, after Derek Fisher put in a three of his own to make it 100-89, Billups thrust back into the starting position this month when Terrell Brandon went on the injured list hit another three to cap a 14-7 run and put Minnesota up 103-89.

Raptors 90, Raptors 85

Toronto Tracy McGrady scored 24 points and Toronto went scoreless in the last 4:54 as Orlando beat the Raptors, Toronto’s ninth straight loss. Horace Grant added 18 points for the Magic, who have won five of their last six.

Bucks 95, Celtics 92

Boston Milwaukee beat Boston for the fourth straight time as Sam Cassell scored 26 points. The Celtics’ Antoine Walker was short on a three-pointer at the buzzer. Boston has lost three straight since acquiring Tony Delk and Rodney Rogers from the Phoenix Suns.

76ers 82, Heat 72

Philadelphia Allen Iverson scored 31 points before leaving because of a thigh injury as Philadelphia beat Miami. Iverson hobbled off with 1:11 left after appearing to bump knees with Eddie Jones.

Trail Blazers 105, Wizards 101

Washington Rasheed Wallace had 22 points and 14 rebounds, and Portland pulled away with a 12-2 run to open the fourth quarter. Scottie Pippen scored 19 points, Ruben Patterson had 20, and Dale Davis had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Trail Blazers.

Hornets 104, Nets 85

Charlotte, N.C. Jamal Mashburn scored a season-high 36 points to lead Charlotte over New Jersey, snapping the Nets’ six-game winning streak. Mashburn, playing in just his sixth game since missing 42 with a strained abdominal muscle, had 19 points in the first quarter and 27 at the half as the Hornets ended their three-game losing streak.

SuperSonics 98, Hawks 81

Atlanta Seattle won its eighth straight road game, equaling the second-longest road winning streak in club history. Rashard Lewis scored 19 points for the Sonics, who won 10 straight on the road in 1995.

Pistons 101, Bulls 89

Auburn Hills, Mich. Jon Barry scored 21 points and matched a career-high with 10 assists, leading Detroit over Chicago. Barry moved into the starting lineup to replace Jerry Stackhouse, who sat out the game to rest a shoulder sprain.

Warriors 110, Nuggets 93

Oakland, Calif. Antawn Jamison had 26 points and 12 rebounds as Golden State snapped a seven-game losing streak. Rookie Jason Richardson had two alley-oop dunks among his 23 points.
