Four candidates for the associate vice chancellor of information services will visit Kansas University during the next three weeks.

Glen Thurman, administrative assistant for Academic Computing Services, said the university conducted a nationwide search for the new position. He said candidates’ visits would be geared toward faculty, staff and students.

“It’s primarily an opportunity for them to interview with the search committee but also to meet with administrators, faculty, and other central information technology management,” he said.

Marilu Goodyear, vice chancellor for information services and chief information officer, said more than 200 people applied for the job.

“It was a very good pool,” she said.

The associate vice chancellor will provide leadership, management and supervise information technology staff in administrative and academic computing. The position was created last year during a reorganization of information services, Goodyear said.

Goodyear encouraged members of the campus community to participate in the selection process.

“We hope they take advantage of coming to the open session and then submitting their comments to the search committee,” she said.

The candidates are:

l Donna Liss, director of information systems at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. She holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Nebraska. She will give a public presentation from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Computer Center auditorium.

l Harvard Townsend, director of computing and network services at Kansas State University. He holds a master’s degree in computing science and a bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology from Kansas State University. Townsend will visit March 7 and 8.

l Larry Rapagnani, assistant provost for information technologies, University of Notre Dame. He holds a doctorate in applied sciences from the Universite Libre de Bruxelles, in Brussels, Belgium; a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Missouri, and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Kansas. Rapagnini will be on campus March 12 and 13.

l Bahram Nassersharif, head of the department of mechanical engineering, New Mexico State University. He holds a doctorate in nuclear engineering and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Oregon State University. Nassersharif will be on campus March 14 and 15.
