Commuter Q & A

Will westbound drivers on the Kansas Turnpike ever be able to stop at a Topeka services area? The old one has been closed since the remodeled road opened.

Westbound drivers to Lawrence from South Topeka still can access the service area, said Lisa Callahan, Kansas Turnpike Authority spokeswoman. But drivers headed toward Lawrence from East Topeka exit no longer pass the service area. The KTA is constructing a new service area about 5 miles east of the East Topeka interchange, Callahan said. It should be open by spring or early summer and will replace the old service area. It will include a Wood Oil service station, Hardee’s, Taco Bueno and Bressler’s Ice Cream, she said.
