Top 25 Roundup: No. 4 Cincinnati tops No. 9 Marquette

February 23, 2002

— Donald Little hit a 15-foot jumper with 3 seconds to play Friday night as No. 4 Cincinnati blew a pair of huge leads but rallied for a 63-62 victory over No. 9 Marquette.

Cincinnati (26-2, 13-1 Conference USA) snapped a three-game losing streak against the Golden Eagles and took sole possession of first place. The Bearcats have won each of the conference's six regular-season titles.

Marquette (23-4, 12-2) overcame deficits of 16 and 12 points, but missed a pivotal free throw in the closing seconds and left Little a 6-foot-11 center who rarely shoots away from the basket open for the winning shot.

Kordell Henry's heave from just inside halfcourt bounced off the back of the rim as the buzzer sounded.

No. 7 Gonzaga 70, San Francisco 54

San Francisco Cory Violette scored 18 points as No. 7 Gonzaga celebrated its highest ranking ever with a victory over San Francisco. Dan Dickau added 17 as the Bulldogs (25-3, 12-1 West Coast Conference) won their 10th straight, and 22nd in 23 games overall.

Shamell Stallworth scored 17 points to lead the Dons (12-14, 7-6).
