Grandma Moses exhibit opens at Tulsa museum

? A major retrospective exhibition of works of artist Anna Mary Robertson “Grandma” Moses will be displayed Saturday through April 14 at the Gilcrease Museum, 1400 Gilcrease Museum Road.

Eighty-seven of Grandma Moses’ most important works have been assembled from public and private collections in the United States and Japan.

Grandma Moses, a farmer and homemaker from upstate New York, came to public attention in 1940 as part of a wave of interest in contemporary self-taught artists.

Her works went on to wider renown and were featured on the covers of Time and Life magazines, on television, in films and books and on millions of greeting cards.

She began painting at age 76, when her arthritis made it too painful for her to do her intricate needlework.

Museum hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday. Admission is free.
