Seely, Howard pair for country show
Ottawa  Jeannie Seely and Jan Howard, two of the Grand Ole Opry’s favorite female members, will perform a show of comedy, music and nostalgia at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Ottawa Municipal Auditorium, Third and Hickory.
They will be joined by Cindy Moore, who will present a tribute to Minnie Pearl.
Seely recorded 27 hits, including “It’s Only Love” and “Can I Sleep In Your Arms,” and teamed with Jack Greene for 11 years to record such hits as “You and Me Against the World.” She won a Grammy Award for Best Female Vocal Performance, Country.
Howard teamed with Bill Anderson for hits like “For Loving You” and “We’ll Be Together” before turning to a solo career. Her hits include “The One You Slip Around With” and “Rock Me Back to Little Rock.”
Moore was booked for the concert after singer Jean Shepard had to drop out because of a scheduling conflict. Moore has performed with Amy Grant, Vince Gill, Kansas and on several television shows.
Tickets are $22 and $25 for adults and $11 and $12.50 for youths under age 18. Tickets are available from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday at the Ottawa Municipal Auditorium Box Office, (785) 242-8810.
Gallery owner to talk at guild meeting
Sherry Leedy will give a slide presentation at the Lawrence Art Guild meeting from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday in the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt.
Leedy owns a gallery in Kansas City, Mo.
Raven Bookstore slates two book-signing events
The Raven Bookstore, 8 E. Seventh St., has scheduled two book-signing events.
Lawrence author James Preston Girard will read from and sign copies of his suspense novel, “Some Survive,” from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday.
Lawrence poets Ken Irby and John Moritz will read their poetry and sign copies of their books from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. March 1. Irby’s new book is “Ridge To Ridge” and Moritz’s new book is “Cartography.”
