Area Wrestling: BHS sending seven to state

? Baldwin High produced three regional champions and placed second at the Class 4A regional Saturday at Burlington High.

Kyle Flory (171 pounds), Dan Hamilton (215) and Witt Hinton (275) won their respective weight classes for the Bulldogs, who compiled 136 points and qualified seven wrestlers for state later this week in Wichita. Abilene won the team title with 138 points.

Flory won his championship match with a 19-3 decision. Hinton won with a pin in the final, and Hinton dominated his final match, 14-2.

Joe Bonner (103), Derek Lang (140), Luke Halford (160) and Seth Halford (189) also advanced to state for Baldwin.

Ottawa’s Chad Hinderliter won the 119-pound weight class with a pin in the final.

Santa Fe Trail’s Travis Eden claimed the 152-pound weight class to help the Chargers, who qualified six wrestlers for state, place fourth with 121 points.

Eudora qualified five wrestlers. Luke Powers (152), Jason Marmon (215) and Shane Grant (275) placed third for the Cardinals. Matt Linzer (119) and James Barr (160) both finished fourth.

Patton, Subelka win

Wellsville  Wellsville High junior Kyle Patton won the 112-pound weight class at the Class 3-2-1A regional.

Patton is ranked No. 1 in the state in his weight class.

Oskaloosa senior Larry Subelka won the 189-pound weight class with a 3-2 decision over Royal Valley’s Joe Douglas, ranked No. 1 in the state.

The 3-2-1A state meet is this weekend in Hays.
