Area Basketball: P-L boys top Lansing

? Perry-Lecompton scored 49 points in the second and fourth quarters combined and dumped Lansing, 72-56, in high school boys basketball on Saturday.

“That was huge,” Perry coach Pat Hupfauf said. “We haven’t had a winning season in 15 or 16 years, and now we’re 9-9 and we beat a team that was 12-3. Lansing is going to be the No. 1 seed in the sub-state we’re in at Hiawatha. It was humongous.”

Justin Zimmerman led the Kaws with 19 points, and Shawn Howard added 16. Aaron Spreer had 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Jared Swafford contributed seven points, seven rebounds and eight assists.

“In our program, this is one of the biggest steps we’ve taken,” Hupfauf said. “We believe we can play with anybody.”
