Wichita ? Despite a weak economy, chances are high that Cessna Aircraft Co. will announce at least one new model of airplane this year, chief executive Gary Hay said.

“It would be a new model or a product line extension of an existing model,” Hay said.

There is a “high probability” that the firm will announce “one or more new products, certainly one,” he said.

Cessna would announce the new product or products at the National Business Aviation Assn.’s annual meeting and convention scheduled for Sept. 10-12 in Orlando, Fla.

Aviation manufacturers usually announce new business jet products at the show.

Cessna is continuing to work on new products, and “we have come up with some interesting ideas,” he said.

The company has been able to “crystallize a couple of them to the point where we are very confident in our ability to bring those to market,” Hay said.
