s golf team tied for 11th in Hawaii

? Kansas University’s men’s golf team is in a tie for 11th place in the 24-team Taylor Made/Big Island Invitational.

Kansas opened the three-day tournament Wednesday with a first-round total of 292 on the 7,074 yard, par-72, Waikoloa Kings’ Course. Georgia Tech leads with a first- round total of 281.

“I was not elated by our scores, although we are beating some good nationally ranked teams,” KU coach Ross Randall said. “We showed some real good signs on a few things for it being our first time outdoors.”

Sophomore Tyler Hall is tied for 23rd place after shooting an even-par 72. Junior Chris Marshall and senior Casey Harbour both carded 73s in Wednesday’s round to tie for 41st. Senior Travis Hurst followed with a 74. Freshman Kevin Ward shot 82.
