Mildred Alice Nichols

Vinland Services for Mildred Alice Nichols, 91, Baldwin, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Vinland Church of Christ. Burial will be in Vinland Cemetery.

Mrs. Nichols died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was born Aug. 12, 1910, in rural Douglas County, the daughter of Herman and Eva Edna (Stanwix) Schmidt. She grew up in Vinland. She attended Coal Creek Elementary School and graduated from Vinland High School.

Mrs. Nichols worked in food service for Vinland Elementary School for 32 years before she retired in 1981.

She was a member of Vinland Church of Christ.

She married Marlin R. Nichols on July 31, 1931, in Vinland. He died March 6, 1973.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Williams, Perry, and Phyllis Gibler, Baldwin; a brother, Warren Schmidt, Fleming, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, Lawrence, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.

The family suggests memorials to Maude Carpenter’s Children’s Home, Wichita, sent in care of the funeral home.
