Old home town – 100 years ago today

On Feb. 13, 1902, the Lawrence Journal continued its editorial fight with county commissioners about the courthouse location. The Journal did note that there was an another issue as well, writing, “The charge is made by the county board that the Journal is ‘sore’ because it didn’t get the county printing. It is. It has a right to be. And when the proper time comes, if there is any skin left on the two Jacks when the court house business has been thoroughly aired, the Journal promises to take a few shots at the two men who played the trick on the county printing matter at the same time, mind you, that they played the court house trick. The two Jacks needn’t worry about this matter until they get to it, or until it comes to them. They have enough to keep them awake nights now, and as soon as they begin to sleep a little, we will prod them up with county printing deal.”
