Baldwin council sets special utility meeting

In light of the recent ice storm and power outages, the Baldwin City Council will conduct a special meeting Monday to discuss electricity.

City Administrator Larry Paine said the city’s utility committee and council members will consider whether the city should obtain more electrical capacity from Kansas City Power & Light Co. to generate power. He said the city would need to add 10 megawatts of capacity to generate backup power for the entire community during a power outage. He said the city’s power plant currently is capable of producing up to 5.5 megawatts of power.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. Monday at Baldwin’s public works office at Eighth and High streets.
