Lee H. Boyles

Graveside services for Lee H. Boyles, 88, Lawrence, will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Boyles died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at his home.

He was born July 14, 1913, on a farm near Neosho Falls, the son of Roy O. and Anna (Hall) Boyles. He spent his early childhood living and working on his parents’ farm until July 1926 when he moved with his siblings to Manhattan. He completed his grade school and high school education there, graduating from Manhattan High School in 1931.

Mr. Boyles continued to work after graduation at Chappel Creamery, where he had been employed during high school. From 1933-1937, he was employed by Skelly Oil Co.

He then was hired by Cook Paint and Varnish Company, Kansas City, Mo., and he operated several paint stores for them, including stores in Leavenworth, Columbia, Mo., and Oklahoma City. In 1940, he established a store in Lawrence and remained manager of the store until he retired in 1977. He served the company for more than 41 years.

He lived with his wife in Lawrence until 1979, when they purchased property at Lone Star Lake, where they remained until his wife’s health required that they return to Lawrence.

He married Willna Broat on July 3, 1942. She died June 8, 1986.

Survivors include many nieces and cousins.

Friends may call from noon Sunday until service time Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, where the family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Monday.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice of Douglas County or to Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn., sent in care of the mortuary.
