Ex-Jayhawk Thompson dies

Broderick Thompson, a starting defensive tackle on Kansas University’s 1981 Hall of Fame Bowl football team, died in a motorcycle accident last Monday near Las Vegas.

Thompson, who lived in Cerritos, Calif., was killed when his motorcycle collided with a tractor-trailer on U.S. 95 south of Boulder City, according to police and a coroner’s report. He was 41.

Thompson spent two years with the Jayhawks after transferring from Cerritos Junior College. Following his senior season in 1982, Thompson played 12 seasons in the NFL as an offensive lineman with Dallas, San Diego, Philadelphia and Denver.
