Whoopi, Oscar reunited

Los Angeles  Oscar host Whoopi Goldberg’s Academy Award was stolen after it was sent out for cleaning, but was recovered Tuesday, the academy said.

Goldberg, who won the supporting-actress Oscar for “Ghost” in 1990, had returned it to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which sent it to the manufacturer for cleaning and replating.

The academy packed up the Oscar and shipped it Friday by United Parcel Service, but the box was empty when it arrived Tuesday at R.S. Owens Co. of Chicago, the company that makes the statues.

Brad Cafarelli, Goldberg’s spokesman, UPS officials told him a security guard at the Ontario, Calif., airport found the Oscar in a trash bin.

Winona Ryder pleads innocent

Beverly Hills, Calif. Â Actress Winona Ryder pleaded innocent Tuesday to four felony counts of theft, burglary, vandalism and possession of a controlled substance, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office said.

Ryder was arrested Dec. 12 for allegedly stealing about $4,800 in clothing from Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills. Police said she also possessed the painkiller Oxycodone, a morphine derivative, without a prescription.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for March 11.

Her attorney, Mark Geragos, said Ryder was carrying items between store departments and had a valid prescription for the drugs.

Survivor prevails in court

Newport, R.I. Â Original “Survivor” winner Richard Hatch was found innocent of assaulting his ex-boyfriend in a ruling that overturns an earlier conviction.

A judge in September found the 40-year-old Hatch guilty of domestic assault after he got into a fight with Glenn Boyanowski on the steps of Hatch’s Middletown home.

Hatch appealed, arguing that Boyanowski, 39, was trespassing when the fight occurred. He said the altercation began when Boyanowski tried to push his way inside.

Newport Superior Court Judge Daniel Procaccini overturned the conviction Tuesday following two days of hearings.

Doherty, 30, also co-starred in television’s “Beverly Hills, 90210.”

Her 1993 marriage to Ashley Hamilton, son of actor George Hamilton, ended six months later.
