Fugitive arrested for 1982 homicide

? A fugitive sought in a 20-year-old Kansas homicide case is being held in the Sumter County jail after he was discovered living in a Livingston motel.

Robert Henry Lackey, 51, was charged with first-degree homicide and being a fugitive from justice in connection with the rape and homicide of a woman on Sept. 11, 1982 in Saline County, Kan.

He had been living at the Livingston Motel for more than a year, said Brandi Bailey, a motel employee.

The FBI and law enforcement agencies in several states had tracked Lackey as he hid under assumed names in Oregon, Florida, Georgia, Kansas and Alabama.

After receiving information that he was in Sumter County, Sheriff Johnny Hatter and deputies arrested Lackey while he was playing a video poker machine at a truck stop.

Lackey will be extradited to Kansas, police said.

Police said Lackey’s history of violent sexual offenses dates back at least 30 years.
