County considers permit requirements

Douglas County commissioners will discuss possible conditional-use permit requirements for commercial logging operations at their meeting tonight.

Dan Barrow of Barrow Trading Company and Eugene Kimmi from Kimmi Lumber and Sawmill will be on hand to discuss the possibility of new regulations regarding the commercial harvesting of timber in the county.

Commissioners originally were scheduled to hear the presentation on Jan. 29 but canceled that meeting due to the weather.

Commissioners had asked their planning staff to look at the feasibility of creating requirements for logging operations after last month receiving complaints about a logging operation near Lone Star.

Commissioners were not expected to take any action tonight because they have not yet received a report back from planning staff members, but Barrow and Kimmi asked to address the commission before the completion of that study.

The commission meets at 6:30 p.m. today at the Douglas County Courthouse, 1100 Mass.
