D.J. Harrison hits seven threes in 84-61 rout of Huskers

? D.J. Harrison scored a season-high 25 points, including a career-high seven 3-pointers, and Colorado rolled over Nebraska 84-61 on Tuesday night.

Colorado (13-7, 4-5 Big 12) never trailed, outshooting the Cornhuskers 50 percent to 31 percent and outrebounding them 54-31.

Nebraska (10-10, 3-6) dropped to 0-8 on the road this season and 0-5 in road conference games.

The Buffaloes’ Stephane Pelle recorded his eighth double-double of the season with 18 points and 16 rebounds, and David Harrison added 12 points.

Jake Muhleisen led Nebraska with 13 points, and Cary Cochran had 11.

D.J. Harrison, 7-of-10 from 3-point range, helped pad Colorado’s lead to 40-29 at halftime with the final three Colorado baskets of the half all on 3-pointers.

He hit two more 3s early in the second half for a 49-31 lead, and Nebraska got no closer than 18 points after that.

Blair Wilson’s 3-pointer and Pelle’s spinning layup gave Colorado an early 16-7 lead.

Brian Conklin hit a baseline jumper and a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 16-12, but the Cornhuskers couldn’t get closer in the half.

Two baskets by David Harrison and D.J. Harrison’s first 3-pointer put Colorado ahead 25-16. Amadou Doumbouya’s steal and layup at the other end made it 29-18.

Cary Cochran had three 3-pointers in the final 4:03 of the half, but D.J. Harrison countered with his three 3s, the last one coming with 39 seconds left.

Pelle had eight points and eight rebounds in the half as the Buffaloes outshot Nebraska 49 percent to 37 percent and outrebounded the Huskers 25-13.

Colorado’s Nick Mohr opened the second half with a 3-pointer, and D.J. Harrison added two for an 18-point lead.

Pelle’s layup gave Colorado a 53-31 lead with 16:54 left. John Turek’s slam dunk after a Colorado turnover trimmed the deficit to 56-38, but Pelle countered with a jump hook and David Harrison with a three-point play for a 61-38 advantage with 12:22 to go.

After Nebraska cut the lead to 61-43, D.J. Harrison hit his final 3-pointer with 10:52 left.

No. 8 Florida 72,

South Carolina 63

Columbia, S.C. Brett Nelson shot 4-for-8 from 3-point range and finished with 16 points and seven assists, leading No. 8 Florida to a 72-63 victory over South Carolina on Tuesday night.

The Gators (17-4, 6-3 Southeastern Conference) survived several second-half rallies by South Carolina to win their second straight game.

Mike Bonner added 19 points for Florida.

Chuck Eidson and Jamel Bradley each scored 14 points for South Carolina (13-9, 3-6). Marius Petravicius had 11 points and seven rebounds.

No. 12 Miami 65, Villanova 56

Villanova, Pa. James Jones scored 16 points, including the first 11, and John Salmons scored all 13 of his points in the second half, leading No. 12 Miami to a 65-56 victory over Villanova on Tuesday night.

Miami (20-3, 7-3 Big East) has won six of seven since losing two straight a month ago.

The Wildcats (12-8, 4-6) have lost four of five, including a 76-58 loss in Miami last month. It was their second straight loss to a ranked opponent, and they play No. 15 UCLA on Saturday.

Gary Buchanan had 16 and Derrick Snowden added 15 for Villanova.

After the Wildcats scored five straight to get within 52-51 with 4:02 left, Salmons hit two free throws, Elton Tyler made a layup off a nice pass from Salmons and Salmons iced it with two more free throws that made it 58-51 with 1:05 left.

Salmons had six assists. Miami’s Darius Rice scored seven points.
