County to reinterpret road frontage regulation

County commissioners directed staff members Monday to begin interpreting differently a regulation requiring 250 foot of road frontage before a building permit can be issued in rural Douglas County.

Commissioners changed the interpretation of the frontage requirement no longer to mean property owners must have access to 250 feet of an improved road. Instead commissioners said it is only necessary that the property have 250 foot of a “road of record” running on their property.

Under the new interpretation, residents only will need to build the road long enough to connect with their driveway, which could produce thousands of dollars in cost savings.

Commission OKs site for new church building

Douglas County commissioners Monday cleared the way for Heritage Baptist Church to build a new church and shop building at the southwest corner of County Route 438 and Trailriders Road.

Commissioners unanimously approved a site plan for a new 47,500-square-foot church building and an 11,250-square-foot workshop building. The site plan also mentioned the possibility of a school locating on the site, but that portion of the plan would require further approval from commissioners.
