Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical personnel spent much of Christmas night battling a fire at a central Lawrence apartment complex.

Deputy Chief Mark Bradford said early this morning that an unidentified firefighter fell through the first floor and into the basement of one of the apartments while fighting the fire at Hanover Place apartments, 213 Hanover Place, near 15th and Massachusetts streets. The firefighter was treated for minor injuries at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Bradford said.

The blaze, which started in Apartment 3, damaged five units. None of the occupants were at home when the fire was reported, about 9:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Bradford said.
