Old home town – 25 and 40 years ago today

IN 1977 – The Kansas University Medical Center appealed to the federal government to pay its bills as soon as possible so the hospital operation could meet its revenue projections for the current fiscal year. KUMC said the government tardiness was causing problems with the accounting process.

IN 1902 – From the Lawrence Daily World of Dec. 25, 1902: “Many local stores were open late on Christmas Eve and reported outstanding activity in what many are regarding as the best business year they have had . . . . The day has been cold, but it has been an ideal Christmas. The expected snow did not come, but the crispness in the atmosphere rallied the spirits, and the university good cheer was felt on every hand.”
