Brown to play for Buffs

Boulder, Colo. — Colorado running back Chris Brown, who has not played for more than a month because of a bruised sternum, will play against Wisconsin on Saturday at the Alamo Bowl, coach Gary Barnett said. Tailback Bobby Purify was ruled out of the game because of a high ankle sprain suffered during the victory at Nebraska on Nov. 29.

CU players arrested on drinking charges

San Antonio — Two members of the Colorado football team were arrested early Tuesday on drinking-related charges, according to city court officials. Drew Wahlroos, 22, a senior linebacker with the Buffaloes, and Will Down, a freshman defensive tackle, were both charged with public intoxication, the city magistrate’s office said. Down, 18, was also charged with failure to identify himself to police.

Colorado coach Gary Barnett said Tuesday afternoon that he had yet to decide on whether to take disciplinary action.

Nebraska coordinator well compensated

Lincoln, Neb. — Green Bay Packers linebackers coach Bo Pelini, 35, will be paid an annual base salary of $200,000 when he takes over as Nebraska’s defensive coordinator.

That salary will make him the highest paid assistant at Nebraska. Pelini’s salary is 52 percent more than former defensive coordinator Craig Bohl’s $131,116 annual salary.

Chow staying at USC

Los Angeles — Southern California offensive coordinator Norm Chow has decided to remain with the Trojans rather than seek a head coaching job. Chow, 56, had been considered a candidate at Kentucky and mentioned in connection with several other coaching positions.
