Calvary Temple Assembly of God

“Left Behind: The Movie” and “Left Behind II: Tribulation Force” will both be shown Dec. 31 at Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 606 W. 29th Terrace.

“Left Behind: The Movie” will be screened at 6:30 p.m., followed by “Tribulation Force” at 8:30 p.m. Admission is free.

The films are based on the best-selling book series “Left Behind,” which has sold more than 50 million copies.

“Tribulation Force” was released on video and DVD Oct. 29. Copies of the movies will be available at the church.

Central United Methodist

A special Christmas Eve candlelight service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Central United Methodist Church, 1501 Mass. It is open to the community.

Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church

A special Christmas program will be presented during the 10:45 a.m. Sunday worship service at Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church, 802 W. 22nd Terrace. The program, which depicts the story of Jesus’ birth, will be performed by adults and children of the church.

The church will have a 7 p.m. Christmas Eve service, featuring special guest performers Greg and Gina Guggisberg of Angel Fire, N.M. The two will perform solos and duets, and lead congregational Christmas carols and hymns with guitar and piano.

First Baptist Church

First Baptist Church, 1330 Kasold Drive, will be host to vocalist and recording artist Darrell Adams of Louisville, Ky., during Sunday morning worship services.

The Rev. Marcus McFaul will preach the message “Love to the World, Love Throughout the World” during both services.

Darrell Adams will give a Christmas concert at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church, performing carols, ballads and songs from his CD, “Ain’t That Boy a Wonder.” Some of the carols are 400 years old; others have been written in the past 10 years. The community is invited to attend the concert.

A Christmas Eve candlelight service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday. McFaul will preach, the Chancel Choir will sing “Hasten Swiftly, Hasten Softly” and the vocal duo of Deana Bowen and Clay Jones will sing “O, Holy Night.”

A brass ensemble will begin an extended prelude at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday. The community is invited to attend.

First Church of the Nazarene

The community is invited to attend the annual Family Carols by Candlelight Christmas Eve Service at 6 p.m. Tuesday at First Church of the Nazarene, 1470 N. 1000 Road.

Special music will feature viola and violin duet selections by Brock and Brynn Paine, as well as selections by guest professional soprano vocal performer, Geneva Houx.

Child care will not be available during the service.

First Presbyterian Church

The Advent worship schedule at First Presbyterian Church, 2415 Clinton Parkway, includes services at 10 a.m. Sunday and Dec. 29 with fellowship time starting at 11 a.m. There will not be Sunday school on those days.

First Presbyterian’s Simple Worship Committee will be host to a Holiday Hymn Sing, including old favorites and some new songs, at 5 p.m. Sunday in the sanctuary. The Praise Band and members of the Chancel Choir will participate.

First United Methodist Church

Children and families are invited to attend Jesus’ Birthday Party at 9:30 a.m. Sunday in the fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt. Participants will decorate cookies and enjoy drama and games to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

The church will hold four special worship services on Christmas Eve.

A children’s celebration at 4 p.m. Tuesday will include balloons of joy and music by all of the Kid’s Rock music ensembles.

Family worship at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday will be a service of Scripture, carol singing and prayer.

A traditional service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday will have music shared by the Chancel Choir and the Celebration Ringers.

Christmas Eve will close with a contemporary service at 10:30 p.m., led by the Mid-Morning Music Team.

The Rev. Sharon Howell will preach at the 5:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. services. Her sermon title is “Making Room for the Child.”

The community is welcome to attend any of these services.

Immanuel Lutheran Church & University Student Center

Christmas will be celebrated with three worship services at Immanuel Lutheran Church & University Student Center, 2104 W. 15th St.

Two worship services are scheduled for Christmas Eve. A family candlelight service will be at 7 p.m. A carols and Scripture candlelight service will be at 11 p.m.

Communion will be served during the 10 a.m. worship service Christmas Day.

Indian Hills Church of God

The Rev. Bill Kimbel will share a Christmas message, “The Greatest Gift,” and children from the Rainbow Express will present a skit, “All Wrapped Up,” during Sunday worship services at Indian Hills Church of God, 601 W. 29th Terrace. Communion also will be served. Sunday school begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by worship at 10:45 a.m.

Lawrence Wesleyan Church

The congregation of Lawrence Wesleyan Church, 3705 Clinton Parkway, will begin the holidays with a Christmas Eve worship service at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

A Christmas Eve candlelight service of lessons and carols will lead worshippers through the Christmas story with readings of Scripture and singing of carols.

Mustard Seed Christian Fellowship

There will be no evening worship service Sunday at Mustard Seed Christian Fellowship, 700 Wakarusa Drive.

A Christmas Eve candlelight service of worship and singing will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Plymouth Congregational Church

The Rev. Lewis Hinshaw will lead a 4 p.m. Christmas Eve service, especially suited for families with young children, at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt.

Traditional candlelight services will be at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Christmas Eve, led by the Rev. Peter Luckey, senior pastor. Child care will be offered during these services.

The Chancel Choir, led by Helen Hawley, and soprano Cara Johnston, will present an organ and choral concert at 7:30 p.m. Christmas Eve.

St. Luke AME Church

The Men’s Annual Christmas Banquet of St. Luke AME Church, 900 N.Y., will be held at noon today at the church. Suggested donation is $5 per person.

St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church

The Christmas season will be celebrated during the 9 a.m. Sunday worship service at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St.

The children of St. Margaret’s will help lead the worship service with their gifts of drama, dance and song, presenting an original musical titled “The Star Still Shines.”

The Rev. Darrel Proffitt will present a new chapter in his sermon series, “Humbug to Hallelujah,” during the 10:45 a.m. Advent 4 service with Communion, choir and children’s program.

The annual “Traveler’s Christmas Eve” service begins at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, complete with carols and Communion, for all those who will be away for the holiday.

Trinity Episcopal Church

Christmas Eve services will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday with the presentation of the children’s pageant, followed by the Holy Eucharist at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt.

The annual Trinity Christmas Concert with choir and orchestra starts at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. Selections from Handel’s “Messiah” will be presented. The concert will be followed by the Festal Choral Eucharist at 11 p.m.

Unity Church of Lawrence

A Christmas Eve candlelight service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Unity Church of Lawrence, 905 Madeline Lane. The church will be closed Christmas Day.

Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence

A children’s Christmas program and naming ceremony will be from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sunday at the Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence, 1263 N. 1100 Road.

West Side Presbyterian Church

A special three-part medley of Christmas carols, including “Singing Glory Be to Jesus” by Rawn Harbar, will be presented during the Sunday worship service at West Side Presbyterian Church, 1024 Kasold Drive.

The church’s traditional candlelight Communion service will be observed Tuesday. “What Songs Were Sung” by John Jacob Niles will be presented, and the choir song will be “Born ‘Neath a Star” by Cynthia Gray. The service’s theme will be “At the Manger.”
